Introduction to 3D Modeling and Design 
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: None

Course Length: 2 semesters

Are you interested in solving a real-world problem? In this course, you will learn basic and intermediate 3D modeling skills to solve a real problem. Students will create physical prototypes with multiple 3D printers in the classroom. At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to earn an industry recognized certification in SolidWorks.

Engineering Principles
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: Intro to Engineering Design or Intro to 3D Modeling and Design

Students will learn about machines, gear trains, forces, energy transfer, and motion. These concepts will be utilized to design solutions to multiple real-world problems in addition to class specific projects. You will work in a variety of groups and utilize 3D modeling software, 3D printers, and CNC equipment to bring your ideas to life.


Shop Basics
Grades: 9-12

Course Length: 2 semesters

This course gives students an opportunity to explore a variety of CTE shop classes offered at Riverside High School in a safe and fun environment. Students will learn basic skills in the following: Metal working, small engines and a woodshop project unit. These units are introduced individually during the year and have general shop safety practices and tool usage in each category. This course is perfect for students that want to sample a variety of skills at an introductory level. No experience or previous knowledge is required. An open mind, willingness to learn and enthusiasm is all that is required. No personal tools or supplies needed and a shop locker is available to keep work clothes, overalls, boots and other personal items locked away.

●             MIG welding, Oxy Fuel cutting, plasma cutting and sheet metal

●              General shop safety, hand tools and power tool safety, and their applications in the metal, engine and wood shops

●              Introduction to internal combustion engine 4-stroke theory and component function using a Honda small engine. Complete tear-down and reassembly to a tested running engine

●              Woodshop experience will cover some basic woodworking skills and applications with an end goal of a specific project to be completed


Welding 1
Grades: 9-12

A project-based course designed so students gain an understanding and safety of a metal shop as well as the welding process. Students will learn oxy/fuel processes, stick weld, and wire feed. Project planning and layout are covered in detail. Students are introduced to American Welding Society (AWS) standards and practices. 

Students will gain an understanding of uses of materials, design, estimating costs, and fabricating projects of their choice while learning more advanced techniques such as aluminum TIG, CNC plasma, and plasma torch. Students can compete in SkillsUSA competitions.


Welding 2

Students will continue practicing and developing their welding skills through the use of power tools and equipment for service, construction and fabrication of quality projects. Students will use CAD to create 3D models on the CNC equipment. Preparation for metal fabrication and related careers will be emphasized. Students can compete in SkillsUSA competitions.

Power Mechanics
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Welding course strongly encouraged

Provides students and aspiring technicians with practical information about small gas engine theory, construction, operation, lubrication, maintenance, trouble shooting, service, rebuilding, and repair. The program has a 30hp Kioti diesel tractor where students will learn diesel engine theory and maintenance as well as hydraulic systems application and operation. The text used in this class is written in clear and easy to understand technical language. Small engine users at all levels are finding it beneficial to have thorough understanding of engine fundamentals and service procedures. For aspiring technicians, there is an Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) certification that can be obtained. This certification shows competence in diagnosing and repairing outdoor power equipment and is an industry standard certification for industry employability. Engines from Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Stihl, Echo and Kohler are used extensively. 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines are implemented. Yamaha Marine has partnered by donating outboard motors and outboard components. The outboard unit helps students not only understand principles of 2-stroke theory and operations, but how an outboard functions.

Powersport Engines
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: Power Mechanics or instructor permission

Course Length: 2 semesters

This course will prepare students to competently understand all systems relating to powersport vehicles such as motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles and personal watercrafts. Topics covered are four- and two-stroke internal combustion engines, lubrication and cooling systems, fuel systems, clutches, transmissions and drives, electrical fundamentals, charging and ignition systems, frames, steering and suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. Maintenance and troubleshooting on all powersport vehicles are covered in detail. Course curriculum is 40% classroom and 60% in shop activities with lots of hands-on experience.  With the support of the Harley-Davidson factory, a hands-on training unit will be included with the use of a Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster, 21 twin cam engines, transmissions and four additional bikes (Road Glide, Street Glide, Breakout 110ci,Fat Boy Slim).

Digital Photo & Media 1

Unleash your inner creativity and shoot awesome photos! Digital Photography is designed to develop skill using digital single lens reflex cameras and Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn how to frame and shoot pictures and use and configure digital cameras. This course will teach basic photographic principles. Students will learn how to optimize and prepare pictures for the web and web photo albums as well as prepare pictures for print media and manipulation of pixels and print sizes. Students will take original pictures and create original artwork. Students can also compete in SkillsUSA competitions.
Digital Photo & Media 2

Students will continue development of concepts and principles of photography including advanced camera operations, the use of various special purpose lenses, photo restoration, design elements, and lighting while creating a music video, web photo album and other digital media projects. Students will also learn advanced lighting and exposure techniques to produce image quality through color control and other digital editing methods. Video production will be introduced. Stop motion video will be used to create a video and editing with various software. Web design will be introduced in this course. Students can also compete in SkillsUSA competitions.

Yearbook 1
Grades: 9-12 
Prerequisite: None

Course Length: 2 Semesters

Become a graphic layout and design pro though the creation of the school’s annual yearbook.  Through the use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, FotoFusion, and a variety of web-based resources, students will learn to manage layout, design, graphics production, and image manipulation.  Students will also shoot the photos and write the content for all yearbook pages for all school sports events and functions.  Students can also compete in SkillsUSA competitions.

Students will continue to develop their skills from Yearbook 1 while moving into specialty areas of the publishing process. Students will practice and develop advanced photographic skills and creativity in designing the yearbook by capturing candid moments during school activities. The value of photojournalism will be emphasized. Students can also compete in SkillsUSA competitions.
