Intro to Business & Marketing 

Grades: 9-12

Course Length: 2 semesters
Run the Ram Shack and learn how to operate a business. Students will learn the principles of business and marketing using real-world examples, learning what it takes to plan and launch a product or service in today’s fast-paced business environment. Units will include costs and profit, management of money, identifying a business opportunity, techniques for planning, executing, and marketing a business. Students will experience business practices while working in the Ram Shack. Senior students will have the option for placement in one of Riverside High School’s on-campus businesses (printshop, screenprint or deli/gift store). Students can compete in SkillsUSA competitions.
 

Advanced Business & Marketing 

Grades: 10-12 
Prerequisite: Intro to Business & Marketing
Credit: 1
Course Length: 2 semesters
 
Students will gain experience in management of the school store. Students can compete in SkillsUSA competitions.

Financial Math

Grades: 11-12 
Prerequisite: None
Credit: 1 (3rd yr math or CTE Credit)
Course Length: 2 semesters
This course focuses on personal finance, the application of mathematics and statistics to the finance industry, including the development, critique, and use of various financial models.
 
Topics include: Personal Financial Planning, Income, Budgeting and Wise Spending, Banking, Paying Taxes, Insurance, Long-term Investing, Buying a House, Consumer Loans, Consumer Credit, Economic Principles, Starting a Business, and Analyzing Business Data. 

This course is aligned to the Common Core State Standards that is an applications-rich, algebra-based, technology-oriented program.  The mathematics topics contained in this course are introduced, developed, and applied in an as-needed format in financial settings. Students are encouraged to use a variety of problem-solving skills and strategies in real-world contexts, and to question outcomes using mathematical analysis and data to support their findings.
 

Riverside Print Shop

Students receive instruction from Riverside’s Print Shop Manager in the operation of a print shop. Individualized training plans are collaboratively developed and monitored to allow students to explore their interests, gain work-related skills, customer service, worth ethic, as well as apply classroom learning in a hands-on setting.

Riverside Screen Print & Embroidery

Riverside Simple Cravings Deli & Gifts

Grades: 11-12 
Credit: .5 
Course Length: 1 semester 
Class Fee: $10 (Covers Food Handler’s Permit-Class fee waived with proof of current food handler’s permit)

Students receive instruction from Riverside’s Gift Store & Deli Manager in the operation of a retail store as well as deli operations. Individualized training plans are collaboratively developed and monitored to allow students to explore their interests, gain work-related skills, customer service, worth ethic, as well as apply classroom learning in a hands-on setting.
